The Perry X Foundation raises funds to provide vital equipment and support for researchers in their plight to find a cure for paralysis.
IMAGINE being paralysed from the waist down, no strength in your legs and having to rely on a walker or wheelchair to get around but still having your arms to help pull yourself up or event better being able to feed and dress yourself with assistance. Imaging having the use of your hands to feel textures, shake hands or turn the pages of a newspaper.
On the other hand, Perry's situation is very rare,imagine being paralysed from the neck down, only able to move your neck slightly and unable to breathe without the assistance of a machine and having to rely on a carer to monitor and help you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Finding a cure for paralysis is not only what the researchers will find, they will also be able to find cures for many degenerative diseases that most of us have been touched by including diabetes, multiple sclerosis and cancer.
Researchers all over the world are working hard and persevering because, like me, they honestly believe that a cure is not that far away.
Donors are also responding more and more but we are still short of the funding levels that will maximise our prospects for success in our lifetime.
