“My story is about triumph over tragedy, and the purposeful decisions I have made to push myself harder, higher and better no matter what life has thrown my way.”
At the age of 19 Perry broke his neck in a rugby game in 1994, and was left a quadriplegic on life support, unable to move from the neck down.
Perry was the first ventilated quadriplegic in Queensland to leave hospital for a life at home needing 24 hours care, he was also the first in Australia to attend university and earn a degree.
Most people in his situation never leave the hospital. However, with the support of those around him and an incredible amount of inner strength and determination Perry made a major decision: "Let's get moving."
Just two years after his accident Perry became Australia's first motivational speaker on life support, and was runner up in the prestigious International Communicator of the Year awards.
Since then he has commanded public attention in his fight to overcome paralysis with the help of a supportive family and a team of dedicated carers; he has fought his debilitating injury and achieved goals that would test the resolve of the most able-bodied.
At 34 years of age, Perry is one of Australia's most highly sought after motivational speakers who has addressed such groups as the Australian Cricket Team, the Australian Defence Forces and many others.
